Elon Musk’s ex-girlfriend is auctioning off billionaire memorabilia from when he was in college

A few decades ago, before Elon Musk became the richest man in the worldHe was in a romantic relationship with a young woman named Jennifer Gwynewho he began dating in 1994. Though his courtship did not last, he left several items that are currently claimed by collectors.

The tech tycoon’s ex-partner auctioned a number of photos and memorabilia from his relationship with Musk, according to the CNN network.

The lot being auctioned consists of 21 items from the time when Gwynne and Musk were a couple. For example, the inventory includes snapshots of the teenage version of the billionaire when he was dreaming in his twenties, long before he founded Tesla or Space X.

Jennifer Gwynne, Musk’s college friend, put the memorabilia up for sale through Boston-based RR Auction.

Gwynne and Musk began dating when they both worked as resident advisors in a college dorm, according to a press release from RR Auction shared with CNN. Shortly after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Musk began a PhD program at Stanford, but left to found his first startup, Zip2.

The photos show the billionaire as a normal college student before his extraordinary rise to financial success. Back then, he was lounging around in a bedroom, hanging out with his roommate advisors, and cuddling with his partner.

The item with the highest bid is a signed birthday card followed by a necklace given to Gwynne on her birthday.

“Happy Birthday Jennifer (aka Boo-Boo) with love, Elon,” the note read. As of late Sunday morning, the highest bid was around $7,000. According to RR, the postcard is expected to sell for more than 10,000.

Speaking to People magazine, Jennifer said: “The emerald necklace and the birthday card are examples of her genuinely romantic side, which was also difficult to see (…) When she gave me the necklace and the note, I saw that part of herself that he offered me and it made me love him more.”

It’s worth noting that the gold necklace contains an emerald from the Zambian emerald mine owned by Musk’s father Errol, a wealthy South African real estate developer and engineer.

“When we visited Elon’s mother in Toronto over the Christmas break in 1994, Elon gave me both the little ‘Love, Love, Love’ note and the necklace,” Gwynne said. “His mother had several of these necklaces in a suitcase in her bedroom, and Elon tells me they came from his father’s emerald mine in South Africa. He took one out of the suitcase. And because I didn’t get her anything for Christmas (and I felt really guilty about it), she said we would consider the necklace an early birthday present for me.”

He also commented on how he took care of the necklace Musk had given him. “I’ve worn the necklace off and on for several years, but it’s been in my jewelry box for most of the past 10 years (which of course always reminds me of Elon),” she revealed.

Collectors and big fans of the life of the American businessman of South African descent can place their bids until the auction closes on Wednesday 14 September.

Ukrainian troops outnumber Russian invaders eight to one as they push Moscow’s fleeing troops back into the Donbass, but Putin’s army is “torturing and murdering civilians” as they retreat

  • Ukraine’s regional prosecutor says Russian troops killed villagers in Zaliznychne
  • Police officers discovered four bodies amid ‘signs of torture’

Ukraine regained more territory from invading forces yesterday after horrifying reports of Russian soldiers torturing and killing civilians as they fled.

Vladimir Putin’s troops were ousted from more than 20 settlements in 24 hours in a lightning push in the northeastern Kharkiv region.

It threw the Moscow army into disarray as Russian soldiers – outnumbered eight to one – fled to the Donbass, Ukraine’s occupied eastern industrial heartland.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine said that after the village of Zaliznychne was retaken, residents reported that Russian troops had killed villagers.

“On September 11, police officers discovered four bodies. All show signs of torture,” prosecutors said on social media.

Early in the invasion, Russian troops killed hundreds in towns and villages they had occupied in their failed advance on Kyiv.

Unusually, the magnitude of Moscow’s recent humiliation has been recognized by those who supported its invasion.

Vitaly Ganchev, a Kremlin-assigned official in the Kharkiv region, told Russian state television: “The situation is getting more difficult by the hour.”

He added: “If we talk about the forces that were transferred to the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian army, they outnumbered our troops at least eight to one.

“In order to spare our staff, it was decided to withdraw and regroup.”

On state-backed Gazprom-owned NTV, a three-person panel at a prime-time debate also confirmed the defeat.

“It is impossible to defeat Ukraine,” said ex-MP Boris Nadezhdin.

“A strong army opposes the Russian army, which is fully supported by the most powerful countries.”

Ukraine’s military intelligence service said yesterday that Putin had sacked Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov after 16 days in office for failing to hold large parts of Ukraine’s territory over the past week.

It comes as Ukrainian troops have shared videos on social media showing abandoned Russian tanks, artillery and other military equipment.

For the first time in six months, Ukrainian flags flew over liberated cities.

Russia hit back yesterday with sustained attacks on civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city.

Electricity and water supplies were cut off and at least one person died, local officials said.

Rhetorical retreat: Russian propagandists respond to military casualties

Russian state television pundits and officials have for months portrayed Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine as a well-oiled “military special operation” methodically achieving its goals of “demilitarizing” and “denazifying” the Kiev “regime.”

But the awkward flight of Russian forces from north-eastern Ukraine in recent days stirred up a normally harmonious chorus of pro-Kremlin TV shows and newspapers struggling to explain to audiences that they had assured victory, which is why Ukraine had retaken more land than Russia took since April.

The result was the broadcast of unusually tense scenes to millions of Russian homes, with some uncharacteristically blunt concessions.

“We have come to a point where we need to understand one simple thing: it is impossible to defeat Ukraine with the means that Russia is now trying to fight with, with this method of ‘colonial war’, with contract soldiers, mercenaries and without general mobilization,” lamented Boris Nadezhdin, a former Russian lawmaker, in a powerful public critique of the Kremlin strategy on a weekend show on NTV.

“Either we call for mobilization and all-out war, or we pull out,” he added, saying the only other option for Moscow, and the one he favors, is to try to negotiate a peace deal.

“Not comrade Nadezhdin, I urge you to watch your language,” warned another guest, Alexander Kazakov, co-chair of the Just Russia party, which is led by ardent pro-war supporters.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has resisted declaring a general mobilization and putting the whole country on a war drive because forced conscription would be widely unpopular, particularly in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Instead, Putin opted for a massive recruitment campaign, recruiting contract soldiers and mercenaries who were promised salaries that dwarfed the national average.

Amid Ukraine’s amazing achievements, liberated villages describe Russian troops dropping guns and fleeing

The heated exchanges between the two political commentators on NTV and other emotional debates that unfolded during the weekend broadcasts were a departure from the typically staged theatricality of Russian television.

One of Russia’s top propagandists, Dmitry Kiselev, struck a rarely seen note of pessimism, opening his flagship Sunday show by saying it was “the toughest week on the special operations frontline,” but also describing the escape as a “regrouping.” consistent with the language recognized by the military.

Others saw the setback as an opportunity to bolster calls for an even more aggressive Kremlin attack and called for unity in their ardent pro-war patriotism.

“I hate tantrums,” Margarita Simonyan, the head of the pro-Kremlin RT network, wrote on Telegram on Saturday, trying to calm the outrage of popular pro-Russian military bloggers and correspondents calling for the withdrawal. a catastrophe,” and called for the officials responsible for the Kharkiv collapse to be punished.

“Calm, calm, help where you can, pray, quench your indignation… do all you can for our inevitable, by God’s grace, victory,” she wrote.

However, many media chose to simply ignore the withdrawal from the occupied territories.

Russia’s official acknowledgment of the backlash did not go beyond a Saturday announcement by Russia’s defense ministry that the armed forces had “regrouped” and abandoned Izyum and Balakliya.

Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Russia’s official government newspaper, duly reported on the Defense Ministry’s recent claims – which are unsupported – that the Ukrainian army suffered 4,000 casualties during last week’s counter-offensive.

Another report on the newspaper’s website praised the crew of a Russian Mi-35 attack helicopter for preventing Ukrainians from crossing the Oskil River just off the eastern edge of the Kharkiv region, but made no mention of Ukraine’s progress – although the Location of troops admitted that the Russians were in retreat.

“By placing the action in Senkove on the Oskil River…it admits how deep the Ukrainians have already penetrated,” tweeted Mark Galeotti, head of the Mayak intelligence group.

Galeotti added that the Defense Ministry and Rossiyskaya Gazeta rely on audiences to “take the triumphant tone and not go into detail.”

“The Kremlin seems stunned and hasn’t come up with a plan yet on how to try to turn this around, so the media largely ignores the bad news until they get a directive,” Galeotti said, adding “is more of a sign.” for the state to lose control of the narrative.”

Car bomb killings unnerve the cheerleaders of Putin’s war

Ahead of Ukraine’s breakthrough, state media anchors and reporters downplayed the threat, suggesting that Ukraine’s counteroffensive was just a “facade” to launder “billions of dollars” in aid to Kyiv. or a cunning Russian plan to uncover enemy positions to the east.

Last Wednesday, Rossiya 1 host Vladimir Solovyov, known for his anti-Western war rants, rejoiced, saying the counteroffensive “is not going as airily as Ukrainians had hoped.”

“If you remove the hysteria, there are no results,” he said. “Ukraine has not been able to return a single significant settlement by military means.”

However, that narrative changed dramatically on his flagship Sunday show, in which he explained Russia’s strategic losses by claiming that the country was fighting not just Ukraine, but the overwhelming might of the entire NATO alliance.

“Is there no more civilian infrastructure in the rest of Ukraine, in the non-liberated parts? Are there no power lines, nuclear power plants, turnstiles, etc.? [if destroyed] could easily incapacitate the enemy state,” Simonyan said on the show.

“I have called [infrastructure strikes] For a long time; This is part of the NATO strategy, which includes destroying infrastructure, including civilian ones,” Solovyov agreed.

While the show was airing, Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s power grid, causing power outages in more than 30 settlements in north-eastern Ukraine.

The strikes sparked a fire at a train station near Kharkiv, killing at least one person. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the “deliberate and cynical rocket attacks” on civilian targets as an act of terrorism.

Scenes of flames engulfing the Kharkiv power plant and reports of thousands of Ukrainians being left without electricity or water were hailed in Russia by pro-war advocates, who saw the attack as the aggressive retaliation they demanded amid this attack from the Kremlin had long hoped for.

“It’s a pleasure to hear all those screams from the other side,” Solovyev said.

“I’m happy [there were] Strikes against the energy infrastructure of the Kiev regime because they are important for victory,” pro-Kremlin war correspondent Evgeny Poddubny wrote on his Telegram blog.

Simonyan echoed the mood by publishing a short Russian poem that ended with a line: “What happened to your electricity, neighbors?”

Russian troops in major retreat as Ukraine’s Kharkiv offensive advances

By Monday, Russian state television’s narrative had mostly reverted to the usual triumphant proclamations as the Defense Ministry insisted on conducting heavy airstrikes.

“We strike the enemy not only from the ground, but also from the air; You can even see the missiles from the Caspian Sea,” said Olga Skabeeva, the host of the 60 Minutes show, adding that Russia’s destruction of critical Ukrainian infrastructure signaled a turning point in Russia’s strategy and the entire operation.

“Two months ago, Putin said Russia hadn’t even started anything serious,” she said. “Now it seems so.”

Skabeeva added: “Despite the limited successes of the Ukrainian armed forces, the West still gives Russia dominance in this war. And the most important ally – time – is playing in our favour.”

A young man’s screams interrupted Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession through the streets of Edinburgh.

Yell at Prince Andrew

The royal family escorted Queen Elizabeth’s body in a slow and moving procession to its first public exhibition in St. Giles Cathedral. Behind them an escort of royal guards and senior officers.

The procession was accompanied by the sounds of bagpipes played by the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

At a certain point a scream broke the solemnity: “Andrew, you’re a sick old man!”

Translated: Andrea, you are an old and sick man.

The hint refers to the note Friendship between Prince AndrewDuke of York and brother of King Charles III. and American financier Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in prison in 2019 after being convicted of sexual abuse and international trafficking of minors.

The procession continued. The newly proclaimed King Charles III chose to ignore the young man’s cries and maintained a regal demeanor.

The friendship between Andrea and Jeffrey Epstein

The long and solid friendship between Andrew of York and Jeffrey Epstein has been widely discussed in the media and has more than embarrassed Queen Elizabeth.

An embarrassment that the crown did not spare on the day of the Queen’s ceremonial funeral.

The young protester was identified and immobilized by a police officer at the end of a short fight. During the fight, the young man kept repeating “disgusting…I’m not doing anything wrong”.

The people around him drowned out his screams and intoned a refrain: “God save the king”.

Police eventually released a brief and sparse statement, explaining that “a 22-year-old man was arrested at 2.50pm on charges of disturbing the peace on the Royal Mile”.

No official uniform for Prince Andrew

A double humiliation for Prince Andrew today: in addition to the screams, the nobleman was banned from wearing the uniform as Epstein was suspended from official posts following the scandal.

However, some sources say the prince could enjoy a waiver of the royal vigil at Westminster Hall.

In military uniform all other children of Queen Elizabeth and King Philip: King Charles, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.

Andrea, unique in civilian attire, however, hasn’t given up pinning his decorations on his chest.

What is the address on the state of the European

What is the address on the state of the European Union?

Ursula von der Leyen will give her speech on the state of the European Union this Wednesday morning before the plenary session of the European Parliament.

But what is the story of this speech?

The State of the Union, or State of the European Union (SOTEU), is an annual speech used by the President of the European Commission to present the main political priorities, objectives and initiatives of the next legislative year.

For this reason, it takes place in mid-September, after MPs have returned from the summer holidays. In the long speech, which lasts between 40 minutes and an hour, the head of the commission reflects on the greatest achievements and – in a careful framework of institutional self-criticism – the mistakes of the last 12 months.

The text is usually sprinkled with a dose of political philosophy: the Presidents openly reflect on the European Union’s raison d’être and its unwritten future, while urging their audience to work together for shared prosperity.

This year’s SOTEU is poised to make history: Ursula von der Leyen will become the first Commission President to deliver the speech with an all-out war in Europe.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the deepening energy crisis are expected to top the von der Leyens’ agenda, casting a distinctly darker slant on the special occasion.

Watch the video above to learn more about the history of the State of the European Union address.

TikTok influencer discovers carpet in river that he claims may be linked to Jennifer Dulos’ murder

A TikTok influencer sparked a police investigation after finding a stained carpet in a river that he believes could be linked to the disappearance of Connecticut mother Jennifer Dulos.

Dulos, 50, a mother of five, is missing and presumed dead after disappearing in a bitter divorce and custody battle with her estranged husband Fotis Dulos in May 2019.

He was charged with murder and kidnapping, although a body was never found, and committed suicide on January 30, 2020.

The couple were embroiled in a two-year custody battle over their children after being married for 13 years.

TikTok star Sean Austin, who describes himself as a paranormal investigator, medium and demonologist, spotted the rug not far from a house where Fotis had previously lived.

Austin reported the carpet Sunday to authorities, who immediately entered the area to find missing evidence.

He claims that “supernatural evidence” led them to the spot on the river bank where the rug appeared to have a vertical stain down the middle.

In a video released Sunday, he said: “We were doing a little investigation here with divers in the Farmington River and found something shady that may have to do with the case of Jennifer Dulos.”

State police last year raided a home owned by her husband in Farmington after deciding he assaulted and killed her on May 24, 2019.

His former girlfriend Michell Troconis and former attorney Kent Mawhinney have each pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to murder in relation to the case.

Both are out on bail while awaiting trial, and Troconis has also pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and obstructing a prosecution.

Dulos is presumed dead after police uncover evidence of an aggravated assault that took place in the garage of her New Canaan home after taking her children to school.

Investigators found bags containing items containing Dulos’ blood and DNA that were disposed of in Hartford, but some evidence was never found.

A piece of carpet believed to be from her SUV was also never found by detectives investigating the case.

In divorce documents before her death, Dulos said she knew filing would infuriate her husband.

She claimed that he would “retaliate by attempting to harm her in any way” and that he engaged in “irrational, insecure, bullying, threatening, and controlling behavior.”

According to court documents, she said, “I fear for my safety and the physical safety and emotional well-being of our minor children.”

Hundreds of pages of search warrants revealed how police found large bloodstains from Dulos in her garage, splattered on trash cans and in her master bedroom, along with bombastic interviews with her children’s nanny.

Her estranged husband continued to deny his involvement in her death until he committed suicide.

Documents say it is “strong suspicion” that Jennifer was assaulted in the garage of her New Canaan home shortly after she finished the school run.

Police believe she was then put in her own 2017 Chevrolet Suburban to be driven to where the car was eventually found.

In the car, they found their phone, which was active at the spot where the car was parked for 40 minutes before suddenly going offline.

In those 40 minutes, Fotis – who had previously been spotted in Connecticut driving an employee’s car – was nowhere to be seen.

Three minutes after Jennifer’s phone went offline, he was seen turning back onto a road in the same employee’s car he had previously been driving with.

The search warrants give no indication of what might have happened to Jennifer’s body.

When authorities searched Jennifer’s home, they found blood in the garage – which had previously been reported – but exactly where in the garage was remained a mystery until last week.

The new documents list that blood was found on the garage’s concrete floor, two garbage cans in the garage and on the passenger door of a Range Rover parked inside.

Police also found shoeprints and said someone tried to clean the blood.

Authorities reported finding traces of blood on a mobile phone and a tablet that were discovered in the home’s master bedroom.

Many fleeing Russian troops near Kharkiv left Ukraine – US officials

WASHINGTON, Sept 12 (Portal) – Russia has largely ceded its gains near Kharkiv and many of the retreating Russian soldiers have left Ukraine and crossed the border back into Russia, a senior US military official said on Monday .

As it withdraws, the United States has seen anecdotal reports of Russian forces leaving equipment behind, “which may indicate Russia’s disorganized command and control,” the US military official said on condition of anonymity.

The comments to Pentagon reporters followed a weekend of quick wins for Ukraine’s armed forces. Ukraine’s General Staff said its soldiers recaptured more than 20 towns and villages in the past day alone, as Ukrainian forces pushed deeper into areas captured by fleeing Russian troops.

Register

The US military official was optimistic but cautious when describing Ukraine’s progress.

“It’s clear they’re fighting hard,” the official said, citing progress in the south and east in retaking territory.

Ukraine said it repelled attempted Russian advances in two key areas of Donetsk region – the town of Bakhmut and Maiorsk near the coal town of Horlivka, the general staff said in an evening update.

But the senior US military official said Russia is still concentrating its firepower on Bakhmut.

“We continue to see heavy use of artillery and airstrikes,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

Vitaly Ganchev, the Russian-installed head of the Moscow occupation administration in what is left of Russian-occupied territory in the Kharkiv region, acknowledged that Ukrainian forces had broken through to the border.

The official did not say how many withdrawing Russian forces left Ukrainian territory and headed for Russia, but described a significant withdrawal.

“On the ground near Kharkiv, we assume that the Russian forces have largely ceded their gains to the Ukrainians and retreated north and east. Many of these forces have moved across the border into Russia,” the official said.
