Laos plans to serve 1.4 million tourists in 2023

With that goal, at least five new tourist areas will be designated and three sites must meet the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Clean Tourist City standards, said Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Vansy Kuamua.

In 2022, Laos welcomed more than 1.6 million domestic and foreign tourists, according to the KPL news agency.

Thailand, China and South Korea were the main foreign source markets, while just over 14,000 travelers arrived from Europe and over 9,000 from the United States.

Vientiane is now preparing to receive a larger number of Chinese tourists after the Beijing government listed it among the 20 authorized countries for group tours.

As announced here, Lao Airlines, which currently operates three flights a week from the country’s capital to Kunming in southeast China’s Yunnan Province, plans to establish connections with the cities of Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Changzhou and Hangzhou.

Laos has been recommended as one of the top 23 travel destinations for 2023 by National Geographic magazine and multinational cable news channel CNN.
