Lanuit: mysterious and festive | Journal

He calls himself Lanuit to draw a clear line between the music he makes for work (commercials, documentaries, films) and the music he creates for his artistic pleasure. JD the Mysterious has just released his first EP of the same name; a dancing and happy opus full of sunshine even when it’s night.

He introduces himself to the world using a pseudonym as his stage name, deflecting the question of his age. Lanuit likes to play with contradictions while the mystery surrounding his identity fits a project that is “100%” like him.

Sun in the night

For the past 10 years, Lanuit has been responding to commissions, adapting and composing music that does not resemble him in the context of his work. And for many years he has had a burning desire to compose his own music and share it with the world.

“I’m more comfortable being Lanuit than having my real name,” explains the Montreal artist. It really represents me because I’m someone who wants to bring “good vibes” into the world. We’ve all been through difficult times, so I want to offer music that brings warmth when it’s cold and sunshine when it’s dark. »

A multi-instrumentalist, Lanuit has always had a talent for music. He quickly put aside the sport he grew up playing to delve into music: hip-hop, rap, vinyl scratching and rock.

“By the time I was 15, I had a band of me, which means I sang and played a bit of all the instruments [rires]. »

Music production, a bachelor’s degree in music, a job in video games and advertising, and creating movie songs followed. Then, at a certain moment, a great tiredness from too much work and too little music for oneself.

“I started thinking of a project that would bring joy to others and not be taken to sell a product,” he continues.

Explode with joy

Lanuit’s first single had the desired effect. With the celebratory Heat in the Blood kicked off two months ago, he was crowned iHeart Radio’s Future Star on Rouge FM for the month of August.

“It’s fun to make a comeback after all that time you’ve been alone in the studio,” says the artist. The song tells a bit about the difficult times we went through, but this life is still really beautiful and there is joy. »

Produced in his small home studio, this first work consists of five pop songs with hip-hop influences and one piece – On s’pet un good time – provided by Ariane Zita, with whom he has enjoyed collaborating .

His only goal? “Bring the world dance, bring joy, love not war,” says the man, who is soon dreaming of his first tour of Quebec. “Accepting yourself for who you are, not working too hard, living slower, taking time for yourself, being comfortable. »

“I really want to do this with my life, it’s my priority and my initial passion, I see big,” adds the one who promises shows that will explode with joy to all who follow him.
