Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix share the screen for the first look at Joker: Folie à deux with filmmaker Todd Phillips. A picture of the two crossed eyes was shared on social media on Tuesday for Valentine’s Day.

The actress and artist is believed to be taking on the role of DC’s beloved Harley Quinn in the sequel to the 2019 $1 billion Joker film. The film also garnered Phoenix, who plays the Joker, an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Warner Bros announced that Joker: Folie à Deux will be released on October 4, 2024 — exactly five years after the release of the first film — and shortly thereafter, Gaga confirmed her long-rumored role in the upcoming film.

While Gaga didn’t reveal which character she will play in the sequel, she is rumored to be playing former prison psychiatrist Quinn, as suggested by the film’s subtitle, Folie à Deux. The French term denotes an identical mental disorder affecting two different people.

It’s also speculated that the Joker Part Deux wove musical elements into the Phillips-directed sequel compared to its gritty, Scorsese-inspired predecessor.
