The President of Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pouit is the President of Latin America with the highest approval percentage, according to a survey by consulting firm Ipsos of opinion leaders in the region.

Next to the President with the highest approval (74%), Uruguay has the best economic score in the region and a larger number of respondents believe inflation will fall over the next 12 months.

Behind Lacalle Pou is his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric (49%), Chile’s first left-leaning president, who took office last March.

Rightly Uruguay and Chile are the only countries considered “full democracies” by their country’s opinion leaders.

The survey was conducted between July 14th and August 8th of this year among 297 opinion leaders and prominent journalists from the twelve countries evaluated: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico and the USA performed Dominican Republic.

Among the rulers of these twelve countries are the four with lower success rate They are: the Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro (5%); the cuban Miguel Diaz-Canel (14%); a Peruvian man Petersburg (fifteen%); and the Argentine Alberto Fernandez (19%).

Compared to recent polls, Ipsos shows how Fernández’s support has fallen from 49% in the month of his inauguration, in December 2019, to 19% now, his worst record.

Most of the people interviewed described Cuba and Venezuela as “Authoritarian Regimes”. The rest of the countries in the region were considered primarily as “Hybrid Regime”.

Secondly, Argentina is among the three countries with the worst economic situation scores, with 94% rating it as “very bad” and “poor,” along with Cuba (93%) and Venezuela (94%). Besides, it’s the country where most respondents believe inflation will increase over the next 12 months (85%). They are followed by Venezuela (72%) and Peru (64%).

The main challenges for the region are economic growth and job creation (64%) and reducing inflation and stabilizing the economy (56%). At the bottom of the list are improvements in health and education, at 12 and 18 percent, respectively.

Regarding the next elections in brazil, in October, 62% of respondents at regional level believe so Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will win in the second round, while a total of 85% agree that the leader of the PT will be the country’s next president.
