Kyiv, exercises in Zaporizhzhia, “ready for any scenario”

(ANSA) — ROME, AUGUST 18 — Ukraine must “prepare for all scenarios” at the Russian-held Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Ukraine’s Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky warned, quoted by the Guardian.

Dozens of Ukrainian rescue workers in gas masks and fireproof suits took part in a civil protection drill amid fears of another Chernobyl-like accident. The drills included evacuating the injured, conducting radiation tests and washing contaminated vehicles.

“Nobody could have predicted that Russian troops with tanks would open fire on nuclear reactors. It’s incredible,” added Monastyrsky. As long as the plant is controlled by Russia, there are “great risks,” the minister warned. (HAND).
