Kirk Cousins will remain in Minnesota until at least 2023.
The Vikings are signing the cousins to a one-year, fully guaranteed $35 million extension that gives him a contract through 2023, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Cousins will receive a raise to $40 million in 2022, of which $55 million is due by March next year, as well as a no-trade clause, Pelissero said.
The Vikings have shown interest in Cousins in recent weeks, but rookie head coach Kevin O’Connell said he has been looking forward to working with Cousins since he was hired, and it ended up with Cousins getting another one. big salary.
A three-time professional bowler with two tackles in four seasons with the Vikings, Cousins is finishing a season in which he has thrown for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. However, the Vikings went 8–9 and failed to make the playoffs for the third time in four seasons with Cousins at center.
However, Cousins continues to rob the bank. Between two franchises during his time in Washington and three deals in Minnesota, Pelissero notes, Cousins has secured fully guaranteed deals for eight straight seasons. And if the Cousins-O’Connell combo leads to a big 2021 season, Cousins could very well be back to work on another new deal around the same time next year.
