Kazakhstan: Ax and knife attack at college, three injured

Three students were injured Monday at a middle school in Kazakhstan, a vast country in Central Asia, after being attacked with an ax and knife by another arrested student, authorities said.

The third-grade student “came out of the toilet with a knife and axe,” an official in Petropavlovsk, a city of around 200,000 near the Russian border, told the official Kazinform news agency.

According to the same source, “Two children affected in the head and forearm were taken to hospital and the third was treated at the scene.” The three victims, two boys and a girl, are conscious.

The attacker, who was raised in the 3rd grade and who was “psychiatrically monitored according to preliminary findings”, was arrested and investigations into attempted murder were initiated, the state prosecutor said.
