Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will not attend the United Nations climate change conference that begins next week. Instead, Minister for Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault will lead the Canadian delegation.

From November 6th to 18th, 190 other countries will meet in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt to coordinate their efforts to combat climate change.

“In Egypt, we will continue to push to accelerate concrete climate action to reduce emissions and increase the resilience of communities and economies as the whole world is impacted by the impacts of climate change,” Minister Guilbeault said in a press release.

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault will lead the Canadian delegation.

Last year, Justin Trudeau personally attended the COP26, held in Glasgow, UK. Canada then pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 40-45% below 2005 levels by 2030 to comply with the Paris Agreement.

From December 7th to 19th, Montreal will host the United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity, COP15.
