‘Justified’ sequel faces second violent incident near filming location

Production on FX’s Justified: City Primeval was once again disrupted Monday by a violent off-set incident of the series.

The series was filming in Chicago’s South Loop area on Monday night when what police described as an “incendiary device” was thrown onto the set. According to a report by WLS-TV, the device did not explode and no one was injured. Police are investigating the incident but no arrests have been made at the time of publication.

Monday’s incident came three weeks after two vehicles with people shooting at each other drove through barricades on the Justified set as it was being filmed on the city’s West Side. Again, no cast or crew members were injured in this incident, but filming was halted for several days.

“We took a break and made sure everyone was okay,” FX chairman John Landgraf told reporters last week. “It was quite a traumatic experience for the cast and crew to even be close to that kind of gunfire.”

After the first incident, producer Sony Pictures TV added additional layers of security to the production Justified: Primeval, which was filmed at multiple locations in Chicago.

Justified: City Primeval is an eight-episode sequel to the 2010-15 FX series starring Timothy Olyphant as US Marshal Raylan Givens. Inspired by Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, it features Olyphant reprising his role (although the character is not part of Leonard’s book). Also starring are Aunjanue Ellis, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Marin Ireland, Norbert Leo Butz, Victor Williams and Vivian Olyphant (Timothy’s daughter who plays Raylan’s daughter).

Dave Andron and Michael Dinner (who also direct) serve as showrunners and executive producers with series creators Graham Yost, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Peter Leonard, Taylor Elmore and Chris Provenzano. Sony is producing the series with FX Productions.
