Jussie Smollett Committed to Psychiatric Hospital at Cook County Jail, Brother Says

Jussie Smollett was placed in the psychiatric wing of the Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois.

According to Jussie’s brother Jocky Smollett, he was transferred to a psychiatric ward because of the “risk of self-harm”.

Jocky added in an Instagram video posted on Saturday that it was “very disturbing” for him.

“What’s very worrying is that a note was attached to his paperwork today saying he was at risk of harming himself.”

“I want to make it clear that he is in no way, form or form, at risk of hurting himself. He wants people to know that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that … has been thrown at him.

Jocky warned against the media and others spreading “false information”.

“So please make sure you all spread the facts. We really need the support of our people,” he said.

Jussi began serving a 150-day prison sentence for staging a hate crime against himself for protection purposes, separate from other inmates and under surveillance by surveillance cameras and an officer, prison authorities said Friday.

Sheriff’s deputies immediately escorted Smollett to the Cook County Jail Thursday night after Judge James Lynn sentenced the gay black actor to 30 months’ probation, starting with a five-month jail sentence, for lying to police that he was a target. racist and homophobic attack.

In a statement Friday, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said Jussi is being held in custody, which is typical for prisoners “who could potentially be at risk of harm due to the nature of their charges, their profession or their notable status.”

Jussi was convicted in a December jury trial where two brothers were among the witnesses, who told the jury that Jussi had paid them to carry out the attack and gave specific instructions on what to do and say.

The Empire cast members’ sentence includes an order to pay the city $120,106 and a $25,000 fine.
