Julio Rodríguez and Curt Casali were activated as Mariners almost entirely healthy

The Seattle Mariners have left OF Julio Rodríguez and C. Curt Casali off the 10-day injured list. To make room on the active roster, Seattle C designated Luis Torrens for the assignment and OF selected Jarred Kelenic back to Triple-A Tacoma.

The move brings the M’s about as close to full performance as they have been all season. Mitch Haniger, Julio Rodríguez and Jesse Winker are healthy again and can roam the outfield at the same time and hopefully continue their strong game together over the past few months. Casali’s role will be direct replacement for Torrens as a right-handed batter who can provide a more stable, experienced backup play in support of Cal Raleigh. Raleigh’s workload has been extensive, leading to signs of fatigue and attrition, so hopefully Casali’s skills as a veteran and his familiarity with former teammate Luis Castillo will be a balm.

It’s no surprise result for Kelenic as the left-hander hit a homer from Gerrit Cole’s move but has otherwise struggled at big league pace over the past two weeks. His book is far from finished, but he needs to keep improving much like Taylor Trammell’s 2021 campaign, which will hopefully lead to better news in the near and distant future. It’s likely the end of the road for Torrens in Seattle, as the backstop in the mid-20s showed enough in his big league career to tempt a waiver claim from at least one club that relies on catchers. If it’s the Finals, a walk-off hit in extra innings is a wonderful last big memory against the Yankees, and hopefully he can recreate his 2021 success elsewhere or maybe even with the Ms.
