Julie Bowen developed an eating disorder as a “coping mechanism” as a teenager.
The former Modern Family star, who has Oliver, 15, and twins John and Gustav, 13, with ex-husband Scott Phillips, always worried about “making mistakes” and not dealing with her feelings growing up Being able to “control” causes her to stop eating.
The blonde beauty shared that she was sometimes “starving” and felt like she didn’t have time to eat.

“You know, it’s funny because I have three sons and they’re all so different. But I see that one of them is very similar to me, and I see that he’s always trying to paint within the lines and get an A+,” she said during the Tamron Hall Show.
“And I think (as a teenager) I interpreted it as being messy or making mistakes or having an ass or having grease coming out the top of your jeans [as] a symbol you couldn’t hold back. That you were too much and that being good meant staying within limits – literally and figuratively. hold it tight
“And that’s my attitude: tight. And that’s no fun, by the way. It’s not a fun way to live.’
At the time, Julie, now 52, was “struggling” with puberty and “didn’t like that sense of change,” but found that when she was “really starving,” she didn’t think about things that much.
She added, “We didn’t talk about anything and it just felt kind of…dirty. And I realized that when you’re really hungry, you don’t have feelings. It’s kind of amazing. The body says, “We don’t have time for this.” So I think it was a coping mechanism.’

Elsewhere on the show, the actress opened up about the “nastiest” body shaming she’s experienced after giving birth to her twins.
She said: “I was lucky enough to get a bit of fame and recognition before everyone had a phone in their pocket and a camera all the time.
“I had my twins in 2009 and was in Hawaii to shoot Modern Family. It was less than a year later and I still had the baby gunk like that.
“I was working and breastfeeding, and at the time I jumped into the sea with my husband in a bikini – nobody was there – and when we came into the room, paparazzi were like hidden in the rocks. and it was the worst. Like, “What’s wrong with her? That’s disgusting.”

This week she spoke candidly about undergoing plastic surgery once her hit TV show Modern Family 2020 came to an end.
The actress, who portrayed Claire Dunphy on the ABC sitcom from 2009 to 2020, opened on The View on Wednesday after being inspired by presenter Sunny Hostin, 54, who recently opened up about her own plastic surgery to destigmatize her.
“I finally got the stomach fixed,” Julie revealed while holding her stomach.

“And I said, ‘Once Modern Family is done … I’m going to have it fixed.’ But it’s been 11 years! So 11 years later we were diapering on Friday and Monday, they went in and they make you a sneaker,” Julie said.
Sunny gave Julie her approval.
“You look pissed! You look good,” Sunny told her.

Julie previously revealed that she was 39 and pregnant with twins when she filmed the Modern Family pilot.
The actress also has 15-year-old son Oliver with ex-husband Scott Phillips.
Julie and Scott married in September 2004 and she filed for divorce in February 2018, which was finalized in September 2018.
