The Saudi kingdom continues to cause a sensation, especially in the tourism and entertainment sectors. Two days after the football clash that caught the world’s attention between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi as part of the Riyadh Season Cup, Riyadh hosted the third edition of the Joy Awards on Saturday 21 January.

A meeting point for dozens of Arab and international stars

These two flagship events, which clearly illustrate Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman’s “2030 vision”, were organized by the Saudi General Entertainment Authority. On Saturday, the Saudi capital was the meeting place for dozens of Arab and international stars.

The ceremony brought together the most prominent international stars including Indian Amitabh Bachchan, Michael Bay, Mel Gibson, Georgina Rodriguez and actress Sofia Vergara. A number of personalities from the fields of art, media and sport from the Arab world also took part.

These include Ragheb Alama, Nabil Shuail, Nadine Nassib Njeim, Yousra, Yasmine Sabri, Ahmed Helmy, Mona Zaki, Latifa Al-Tunisia, Karim Abdelaziz, Achraf Hakimi, among others.

All guests and nominees first stamped the pavement on the stunning purple carpet of the Joy Awards 2023 and then joined the Bakr Al-Sheddi Theater in Riyadh for the awards ceremony for the best Arab entertainers.

The principle of distinction is that whoever has received the highest percentage of votes from the audience in each category wins without further arbitration. Awards were given to music, film, sports and social media influencers.

Two award-winning North African personalities

International stars in attendance were also honored alongside dozens of Arab personalities competing for awards in various fields of entertainment. Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara won the Personality of the Year award and American actor Mel Gibson won the Entertainer honors award.

In addition, the Saudi Rashed Al Majed, the Egyptians Ahmed Helmy, Mona Zaki and Mohamed Mounir and the Kuwaiti Hayat Al-Fahd, Souad Abdullah and Nawal received the honorary award.

Two North African personalities received the high award. Tunisian actress Hend Sabri won the Best Arab Actress award and Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi was crowned Best Arab Sportsman of 2023 at the Joy Awards.

His award was presented to him in the presence of his mother by Georgina Rodriguez, who has now lived in Saudi Arabia since her partner Cristiano Ronaldo signed a contract with Saudi football club Al-Nassr. It should be noted that no Algerian personality has been nominated for an award.
