The man directing his training to compete in the last Super Bowl struggled with a ruptured appendix and “suddenly” found himself under the knife.

Luckily for him, aside from the weight loss, the consequences weren’t too bad, according to the concerned principal. The Pivot took to the field again this past weekend, throwing passes.

Now he wants to be at his best by September 11, when his team faces the Pittsburgh Steelers at the start of the season.

“It was frustrating, but you only control what you can. We work from there. We have three weeks to regain the strength, speed and athletic prowess of yesteryear, he told NFL.com on the sidelines of Wednesday’s session. For me, it’s like going back to my school days trying to gain 20 pounds in a matter of weeks.”

to overcome obstacles

Burrow is getting used to facing obstacles in the offseason. His first year on the Goodell Tour fell at the height of the pandemic and in 2021 he had to undergo a fitness exam due to a knee injury.

“Yes, I would like to be entitled to a normal off-season at some point. It would be nice to start the calendar with the best feelings. That hasn’t been the case for three years though, so you have to make the best of what you have. Next year we will continue,” he said.

The quarterback does not expect to play in the exhibition phase, the Bengals visit the New York Giants on Saturday. Burrow hopes to attend joint training sessions between his club and the Los Angeles Rams next week after the formation also triumphed at the Super Bowl in February.

“I think I’m right. I think we have a good plan in terms of nutrition, weight management and rehabilitation. I feel good and it’s about getting even more,” he said.

During the 2021 season, the 25-year-old completed 70.4% of his passes for 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
