‘Tears of gratitude ran down my neck like a river’: Jessie J reflects on her ‘out of body’ experience of performing in Rio when ‘nobody knew I was pregnant’
Jessie J was emotional on Wednesday as she looked back on her performance in Rio – at a time when no one knew she was pregnant.
The 34-year-old singer announced that she is expecting her first child earlier this month, 13 months after suffering a devastating miscarriage.
Jessie said she had “tears of gratitude” as she viewed footage of herself with her baby “kicking me” at 3am.

In the video, the singer touched her stomach in her glittery gold jumpsuit as she took a deep breath to calm herself after worrying about rushing her performance for the Rock in Rio festival.
Jessie wrote: “I’m pregnant here. My adrenaline excitement and anxiety were at 1000. You can see how I kept telling myself, “You’re ok, you’re ok.” I felt like I was out of my body the whole time I was in Brazil , but especially at this moment.
“No one knew and I walked off the stage feeling like I performed the show 100 times faster than I should have. As I sang like Theodor from the Chipmunks accelerated. I came down and just sobbed. Woooo the emotions/hormones were HIGH.

“I’m looking back at that and fast forward to now and I’m lying here at 3am and I can feel my baby kicking inside me…”Go on baby.”

The singer has been very open about her pregnancy, opening up about the “overwhelming” fears she’s faced so far, including morning sickness.
In one post, the hitmaker called out trolls who left comments on a video she recently shared of herself breaking down in tears while suffering from an illness.

Venting her frustration with her 12.3 million Instagram followers, she wrote, “Commenting on videos about pregnancy is a whole new experience… It’s very interesting to see how women interact.
“Let me just say one thing, pregnancy is the most relatable yet UNIQUE journey. We all feel and experience and deal with it in OUR way.
“Telling someone how they feel or what you want them to feel just isn’t the way to go.”

She continued, “I’m not even talking about some of you commenting on me, I’m talking about how you comment on each other.
‘Everyone is different. Literally. And every story and journey is different.
“Pregnancy is not a competition. Pregnancy isn’t about who makes it better or right because no one way works for all.
“I can only speak fully about the first trimester and I feel like how sh*** or amazing or awful or scary or joyful it is. Gratitude is always there.
“But we can feel. We can do as WE want. We have that.’
