Jeff Bezos Considers Selling Washington Post to Buy Commanders

Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos “is considering selling the Washington Post to buy the Commanders,” while embattled NFL owner Dan Snyder wants to sell for “north of $7 billion” amid the ongoing sexual harassment investigation

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly willing to cash in on the Washington Post newspaper to buy the NFL’s Washington Commanders.

The billionaire bought the Washington Post for $250 million in 2013, but the New York Post is now reporting that Bezos is “trying to clear the way” to get the Commanders from embattled owner Dan Snyder.

There was reportedly a deadline for all offers for the commanders back in December, with the team expected to be valued in the region of $5.5 million to $6.5 million.

Snyder, along with his wife and co-CEO Tanya, announced Nov. 2 that they have retained Bank of America Securities to review potential transactions, but have not indicated whether they intend to sell the entire team or just a portion.

A leaked video of a town hall meeting by Washington Post employees, showing a discussion about impending layoffs, raised suspicions that Bezos might be moving out of his estate.

Editor Fred Ryan was heard telling staff that layoffs will take place in the first quarter of 2023.

A spokesman for Bezos told the New York Post the Washington Post is not for sale.

But last week, sources told Front Office Sports that Bank of America executives were “courting” Bezos over the possibility of a takeover.

Bezos is the second richest person in the United States, worth $124 billion.

NBC Sports Washington announced last week that a sale of the team “will be finalized soon,” but since Bezos has reportedly not made an offer yet, they added that the Snyders’ “preference” is not to go to the Amazon Founder for sale.

Bezos has immense wealth and spending power and as such it will be an interesting test for the Snyders when he makes a bid for the team that turned XX last season.

However, it’s far less likely that Bezos would go along with his Jay Z bid.

Despite previous reports to the contrary, a source close to the rapper told last month that Jay Z is unlikely to be involved in any purchase.
