  • Police suspected Kloepfer was a gunman with a hostage

Shocking footage showed the moment a disabled man was shot dead by North Carolina’s SWAT team despite obeying his orders.

Jason Harley Kloepfer, 41, was shot multiple times by Cherokee County police after authorities received a call about gunfire in the area around 11 p.m. on December 12.

Police suspected Kloepfer was the suspected shooter and was holding a hostage.

Kloepfer can be seen in surveillance footage from inside the trailer opening the door with his wife Alison Mahler moments behind him as both hands were raised.

Seconds later, officers fired multiple shots at Kloepfer as he fell to the ground. He was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police said Kloepfer had a verbal altercation with police before opening the door and insisted he “confronted” them when he was shot.

Mahler could be seen in the video pulling Kloepfer out of the way of the shots as he repeatedly began yelling, “I was shot!”

“What the hell,” Mahler yelled at the officers as he helped Kloepfer. ‘He was shot – what the hell did you do!’

The police continued to call from outside the trailer, ordering the two to come outside.

Mahler obeyed while holding her hands up while Kloepfer pulled himself towards the door. She was slightly reluctant to leave her husband unattended before stepping from his side.

“He can not! He’s shot!’ Mahler shouted at the officers as they exited.

As officers approached the trailer, Kloepfer could be heard yelling, “I don’t have a gun. I didn’t have a gun.”

Kloepfer was then pulled out by the arm for treatment.

He was charged with communicating threats and resisting, obstructing and delaying.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment.

Last week, Kloepfer shared his healing journey on social media along with footage of the incident.

Apparently he had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body and arm.

“I’m doing better physically, me and Ali aren’t doing so well mentally,” Kloepfer wrote. “We have left the state in fear for our lives since I was discharged from the hospital.”

The details of the incident and the aftermath remain unclear as Kloepfer insisted he could not share any information about the shooting.

He insisted he was innocent and called the charges “completely false”.

“It was and still is a terrible nightmare that we are trying to overcome. We will make it!’ he wrote.

Kloepfer identifies as disabled, but the nature of his disability has not been publicly disclosed.
