Damascus, February 19 (Prensa Latina) The recent Israeli bombing of this capital has caused material damage to cultural institutions and archaeological sites, the Syrian authorities said today.

The ancient castle of Damascus and the Intermediate Institutes of Applied Arts and Archeology located within it were severely damaged by the attack, admitted Nazir Awad, head of the antiquities and museums department.

He added that these are educational institutions only and the place attacked is a place for cultural and social activities and has no military character whatsoever.

According to the director, the offices of the national project for the restoration of the castle and the digital and paper archive of this program, which contains dozens of studies, were also destroyed.

Culture Minister Lubana Mashouh said the attack is undeniable evidence of crime and racism in Tel Aviv, which is attacking people’s lives, values, civilizations and cultures.

The official called on Unesco and international organizations to mobilize world and Western public opinion to condemn this subversive action against human cultural property.

For her part, the director of the cultural center in the Kafrsoussa district, Elisa Kassah, said that the facility she managed had suffered material damage.

At least five dead and more than 15 injured, some seriously, in an Israeli missile attack on the city of Damascus today.

Israel conducted nearly 40 military raids against Syria in 2022, some against civilian infrastructure facilities such as the Messiaf scientific research center, the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo, and the commercial port of Latakia.

The Levantine nation called on the United Nations Security Council to publicly condemn the ongoing Israeli attacks, affirming that these attacks directly threaten regional and international peace and security.
