The university novel is a genre of its own, essentially romantic, because behind it is an idea of education that more or less coincides with life. Smart people don’t have to go far to work on campus, but they don’t have to go far to get involved either. At least that was until the balance of power in this area was examined more closely. Meanwhile, the college novel only exists critically – or historically. Joshua Cohen’s Netanyahu is of the second variety. It is essentially set in a college in upstate New York in the late 1950s. By which the word “upstate” is only used by the “geographically illiterate” living in New York City. They think that everything above is the deepest province.
