Actress Irma Serrano, known by her nickname La Tigresa, died on Wednesday at the age of 89. The Mexican Association of Interpreters announced his death this morning without disclosing the causes of death.

Born in Comitán (Chiapas, south-eastern Mexico) in 1933, Irma Consuelo Cielo Serrano Castro began her career in the sixties as a singer in the ranchera genre, while also venturing into films such as Santo contra los zombies, where the mythical fighter against monsters of beyond the grave.
La Tigresa was a controversial figure, and her love affair with former President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz (1964-1970) caused a major scandal at the time. The woman from Chiapas put aside her facet as a singer and actress to devote herself to politics. She was a federal representative for the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) for her home state.
She later continued her political career as an independent senator and, after a brief hiatus in politics and under the aegis of the Alianza Social Party, ran unsuccessfully for mayor of a borough in Mexico City in 2000. In her most recent public appearances, she was romantically linked to former Big Brother contestant Patricio Zambrano, the nephew of a prominent Monterrey businessman.
