“We have engaged a team of experts who are conducting a thorough investigation and are working hard to restore the systems as soon as possible,” institution spokeswoman Julie Robert told the Journal.

In the meantime, INRS activities are maintained and most staff are still in office.

However, social networks and mobile phones are the only means to communicate with them.

“We’re trying to function as best we can. Everything related to e-mail, servers and telephony is out of service, but as far as we know nothing else is affected,” explains Ms. Robert.

It is currently not possible to comment on the “exact type of attack, its extent and its effects”. Those responsible for this are not yet known.

The INRS has not set a deadline for the collapse they are victims of, but is ensuring it is making every effort to minimize the impact and “encourage a speedy return to normalcy”.

In July 2019, hackers tried to break into INRS servers.

The institute said at the time that it was only the second time it had been the target of an attack.

INRS assured at the time that no data had been stolen.

After the hacking attempt, the hacker(s) asked to be contacted.
