Tropical Storm Ian is set to become a hurricane and hit Florida

The information was released by meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center, who also said it was too early to determine the extent and location of the storm’s impact on Cuba and Florida, but urged residents to brace themselves for a possible hurricane ready to start next week. Ian is expected to pass southwest of Jamaica on Sunday as a tropical storm and reach hurricane strength on Monday if it passes near or over the Cayman Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an emergency directive for 24 counties in the storm’s potential path, urging residents to stock up on needed supplies, including food, water and medicine. The latest storm comes after Hurricane Fiona hit the Caribbean and hit eastern Canada earlier this Saturday, the 24th. Fiona was responsible for the deaths of at least seven people. The Atlantic coast of the United States experiences an average of one to two hurricanes a year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which has tracked storms since the mid20th century.
