In heavy rain, the plane loses control on landing and goes off the runway

A plane from the Thai company Nok Air with 170 people on board skidded after landing this Saturday (30th) in the city of Chiang Rai and came off the runway. According to the Aviation Herald, no one was injured.

Nok Air Boeing 737800, registration HSDBR, was on flight DD108 from Bangkok Don Muang to Chiang Rai, Thailand.

164 passengers and 6 crew members were on the plane.

The jet landed on runway 03 in Chiang Rai at 21:04 local time (14:04 Zulu time).

There was a detour to the left and the plane came to a halt on all wheels off the paved runway. This type of incident is known in aviation as a runway excursion.

The airline said heavy rain caused the crew to lose control during landing.

Also according to Nok Air, the pilot managed to get all the passengers and crew of the plane to the terminal. Meals were served to passengers while they waited. Affected people who lost their connection were accommodated.

Nok Air said in a statement that it would work with relevant authorities to expedite the investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
