Immigration: Asylum requests explode in France and Europe

EXCLUSIVE – Le Figaro had access to the figures, which Paris sent to the European Union’s office, Eurostat, which presents itself as “the source of quality statistics and data in Europe”.

Never before has France had to process so many asylum seekers on its soil: 154,597 in 2022. This is 16.5% more than in 2021. The level of 2019 (last full year before Covid) with a total of 151,283 applications is exceeded. These figures, to which Le Figaro had access, were passed from Paris to the European Union’s office, Eurostat, which presents itself as “the source of quality statistics and data in Europe”.

They therefore include “initial applications” which, according to the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (Ofpra), exceeded 131,000 last year (+27% compared to 2021), but also applicants in the Dublin procedure. It is clear that these foreigners knocking on the French counter should have processed their files under the Dublin Accords in the European country they first passed through during their trip.
