Shakira and Gerard Pique staged a controversial split, and the Colombian singer has already opened up about the situation, in which she reveals that she went through the darkest period of her life as she had to make sacrifices to keep her then-partner from leaving Barcelona.

There is talk of an infidelity of the footballer, since he would have already had a relationship with his new girlfriend (Clara Chía), although he was with the singer, mother of his two children.

her victim

Now, Shakira has broken the silence with Elle magazine, where she explained that one of the pair had to sacrifice himself, putting his career on the back burner and it was she who did it so he could continue being a footballer in Europe.

“Gerard wanted to play football and win trophies and I had to support him. I mean, one of the two had to make a sacrifice, right? Or he canceled his contract with Barcelona and moved with me to the USA where my career started, or I would have to do that instead.

“And so one of the two had to make that effort and that sacrifice. And I did it. I put my career on the back burner and I came to Spain to support him so he could play football and win trophies. And it was an act of love. I must also say that it has allowed my children to have a mother and I have with them this incredible bond that is unbreakable and sustains us,” he commented.

It was the darkest moment

Shakira is disappointed and knows this is the darkest moment of her life when the press didn’t respect her feelings.

“It’s really disappointing to see something as sacred and special as I thought was the relationship I had with the father of my children and to see it being vulgarized and cheapened by the media. And all while my dad was in I and the UCI fought on different fronts. Like I said, this is probably the darkest hour of my life.”

“Regardless of how things turned out or how Gerard and I felt as ex-partners, he is the father of my children. We have work to do for these two great guys and I am confident that we will find what is best for their future and the fair solution for everyone. And I hope and I would be grateful if you would give us the space to do this privately. Dealing with the press was very difficult and very invasive for my children. They don’t deserve to feel watched every second, photographed at school, or stalked by paparazzi. You deserve a normal life. It seems like a total circus to me,” said the Colombian.
