Hubert Lenoir goes wild

Hubert Lenoir waited nine months after the release of his excellent second album to find audiences in Montreal. And the long wait was worth it. In great form, the musician delivered an unleashed and determined rock performance on Tuesday in front of thousands of spectators who attended him at a major concert outside of the Francos.

In an interview with Le Journal, Hubert Lenoir told us that he saw this concert at Francos – probably the biggest of his career – as “a cross between a Jackass film and a rock concert”.

We had that… from the first song! Hubert appeared on the screens, which were filmed by a handheld camera and manipulated by his accomplice Noémie D. Leclerc “à la MusiquePlus”, and had a sip of beer backstage before going on stage. He wore a fluorescent yellow striped jacket and an NFB cap.

As he entered the stage, the singer set the tone for the concert with loud shouts. The musician jumped all over the place and played a very rocking version of Golden Days. Then his musicians let off steam in a long jam with almost grunge accents, with Hubert bodysurfing the crowd. We remember we were only on the first song!

New parts

After a short break in Mtl Freestyle, the rhythm picked up speed again from the next leg on Sunday evening. Here, too, the singer and his musicians have made a much rockier, sometimes even punkier version than on the album PICTURA DE IPSE: Direct Music. In the crowd, several spectators did not hesitate to jostle in a mosh pit.

“I’m back baby!” introduced Hubert to the public who finally saw him again after the singer had toured the United States and France. The Place des Festivals was also quite packed on what looked to be August, a great Tuesday night.

At the disco

Further, Hubert dropped the fluorescent jacket to reveal a pink dress, a dress he later removed to continue the concert in simple underwear!

After playing his biggest late career hit, Daughter of Nobody II, Hubert Lenoir left the stage before returning for an encore.

And what an unforgettable memory we had! The singer sang PHASE from his latest album before offering the public… disco music!

So we heard in the loudspeakers of Flo Rida and Timbaland artists who – that remains to be checked – have probably never played at Francos. It was enough to bring the party to Place des Francos.

After about fifteen minutes of dance-pop music and as part of the audience started to leave, Hubert reappeared to do his very nice start again. A perfect end to an evening you won’t soon forget.

Hubert Lenoir and his co-writers Félix Petit and Julyan received the SOCAN Song of the Year Award for the piece on Tuesday SECRET. “That’s good, that’s one of the best songs I’ve written,” Hubert said during the concert.
