Hilarious moment a man dives into the sea after dropping his engagement ring while proposing

This is the hilarious moment a groom-to-be was forced into deep sea diving after accidentally dropping his lover’s engagement ring into the sea.

The clip shows Sarasota man Scott Clyne, 35, trying to propose to his girlfriend Suzie Tucker, 32, on November 12 while he is aboard a small boat with two friends in Florida.

At the time of writing, the video has been viewed nearly eight million times on TikTok, garnered 1.5 million likes and generated more than 3,000 comments.

The original video is synced to the 2003 Snoop Dogg hit Drop it Like It’s Hot, an obvious reference to the ring.

He can be seen preparing to walk on bent knees before fumbling with the ring box and dropping it into the sea.

Clyne wrote in the caption, “Droping the ring in the gulf during my proposal.” The video goes on to show Tucker and the couple’s friends collapsing in hysterics as he falls into the water while retrieving the stone.

He described himself as going into “full panic mode” when faced with the possibility of the ring ending up in Davy Jones’ locker.

While things don’t quite go according to plan, the video at least has a happy ending, with Clyne telling the audience, “She still said yes.”

He said the couple actually met aboard a boat with friends in the coastal community of Englewood, Florida.

“We love boating and I couldn’t imagine suggesting anything else. The proposal was in Sarasota Bay and I had planned to spend the whole night as a sunset cruise and have dinner on the water,” Clyne said.

“I planned on having two of our best friends with us so they could have a ‘Will you marry me?’ can hold up. banners and threw rose petals on the bow while we pretended to take photos,” he added.

“I had the ring in my back pocket and when I tried to reach for it, the corner of the ring box got caught in the top of my pocket and slipped out of my hands and jumped into the water.”

He added: “Everything was a blur after that. I panicked and reacted by pouncing on the ring box before it could sink, not caring if I fell in the water. Luckily I was able to salvage the ring!’

Clyne continued, “I honestly just swayed in amazement for a few seconds trying to process what had just happened. Determined to finish what I had started, I swam back onto the boat and finished my proposal soaking wet. It was quite a hysterical/scary moment and something we will never forget. I even had to go to dinner that night in wet clothes because I didn’t bring an extra pair.’

Among the thousands of commenters was the Carolina Panthers’ official TikTok account, who asked, “Did he find it?”

Clyne responded by saying: “My own fumbling restored! Let me know if you need a WR!’

Another commenter said, “This is actually such a perfect engagement.”

In another video, Clyne can be seen getting back on the boat while Tucker is still laughing uncontrollably. He writes in the caption: “Saved the ring and returned to salvation.”

Over on his Facebook page, Clyne posted the video with the caption: “This is 100% real. 100% my luck. 100% will never be forgotten….’

It’s not clear if Clyne and Tucker set a date.

According to Portal, 2023 will be another big year for weddings. This year saw the most weddings since 1984 and $70 billion in spending.

Weekday weddings are expected to increase about 2 percent this year compared to pre-pandemic 2018 and 2019, according to a survey of couples using wedding planning website TheKnot.com.

Although most wedding couples planning for this year will take place Friday through Sunday, about 10 percent take place Monday through Thursday.

Kim Forrest, senior editor of wedding marketplace WeddingWire.com, said the average number of weddings in the US in a year is typically 2.2 million. In the next 12 months, that number is expected to increase to 2.6 million.

The recovery underscores a return to pre-pandemic lifestyles in the United States, as immunizations have helped lift restrictions and reduce fears of infection.

While half of penniless Americans say they plan to attend a wedding in 2023, less than a third have built attendance into their budget, according to a new poll.

“I think guests will start looking at all the things that they’ve never really looked at before and decide, ‘Is this really worth my attendance at this event?'” says Sheavonne Harris, a wedding planner from NYC. In some cases, they might just decide to send a nice gift in their absence, she says.
