The presence of members of the Henry Reeve Brigade in Turkey is an expression of the Cuban people’s sense of solidarity, the island’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, reiterated today.

Through his official profile on Twitter, the Foreign Minister stressed that the departure of 32 health professionals from Cuba to the Eurasian country marked the accompaniment and sympathy of the Caribbean nation towards the Turkish people after the February 6 earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.8 and show 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Rodríguez Parrilla also shared a message from his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu thanking the countries and international organizations that have offered their assistance in the face of the disaster that has so far claimed more than 40,600 lives there.

“The images that reach us from our staff in Türkiye speak of sensitivity and commitment, of closeness and companionship, because our brigades also leave a lot of it around the world,” wrote the Cuban Minister of Health recently on the same social network Jose Angel Portal.


With the aim of helping to recover the victims of the earthquake, the Cuban collaborators arrived in Türkiye on February 12 and four days later eight of them moved to the city of Buyukyapalak Elbistan, where they work, accompanied by a translator, in a medical clinic that is fully equipped staffed by the largest of the Antilles.

Founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, the international contingent of Henry Reeve doctors specializing in disaster situations and serious epidemics is tasked with providing humanitarian, medical and sanitary assistance to people who are victims of natural disasters to contribute to epidemics in other countries and help in their recovery.

Since its inception on September 19, 2005, the Henry Reeve Contingent has helped earthquake victims in Pakistan (2005), Indonesia (2006), Peru (2007), China (2008), Haiti (2010), Chile (2010). , Nepal (2015), Ecuador (2016) and Mexico (2017).
