Gwyneth Paltrow has said that children can make or break marriages, and that has caused controversy. The actress has two children, Apple, 18, and Moses, 16, from her relationship with exhusband Chris Martin. Paltrow was on an episode of her podcast Goop with Katy Perry to talk about the relationship.

“It’s hard in a relationship. Like I’m going to look back now as a record of parents with young kids and it just… ruins the relationship,” he said. The singer, who has daughter Daisy, two, agreed that the dynamic changes after having children. However, she argued that couples can get through these difficult years as long as they are on the same page.

“I think when both people in the relationship are willing to do the work, it becomes a lot easier,” Perry said. “But when a person thinks they don’t have work to do, it really becomes a challenge.”

Despite the challenges of being a mom, the two both agreed that it was one of the most rewarding parts of their lives. “I never felt alone after having her. [Apple] …and I felt deeply lonely in my life,” Paltrow revealed.

Parry agreed with the actress, saying that she “felt really lost” and that everything she did “wasn’t enough” until she experienced the unconditional love of a child.

In addition to her two children, Paltrow is the stepmother of her now husband Brad Falchuk’s two children Isabella, 18, and Brody, 16. She now has a great relationship with her stepchildren, but regrets not having done a few things before.

“If anyone asked me for advice, I would say from day one, just treat them like your son,” Paltrow told Falchuk in a previous episode of her podcast. “I just wish I had done that sooner.”
