Gunman at Jewish Hospital Suspect arrested in Toronto

Gunman in the Jewish hospital: The suspect is arrested in Toronto

The armed man which caused a stir at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal in early August was eventually arrested in Toronto.

Menachem Mendel Cohen, 26, has been wanted since August 9 after showing up at the hospital with a fake firearm.

The man was in fact in possession of a BB Gun type air pistol.

In the late afternoon of August 9, Mendel Cohen was seen outside the Jewish General Hospital pointing his gun at the sky before clipping it back to his belt and entering the medical facility.

But by the time police arrived at the scene, the suspect had already disappeared.

About 30 minutes later, Menachem Mendel Cohen allegedly used his gun to fire projectiles at an apartment building on Carlton Avenue near the hospital in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de district.

No one was injured in either of these two events.

Surveillance cameras and witness statements helped the police greatly to advance the investigation.

Authorities quickly identified Menachem Mendel Cohen as the perpetrator of both of these incidents.

The latter was arrested in the Queen City last Thursday. He was wanted on an arrest warrant.

The suspect was repatriated to Montreal and was due to appear Tuesday on various charges.
