The Guinean government has just announced the dissolution of the FNDC, a coalition of political parties, trade unions and civil society organisations. The National Front for the Defense of the Constitution led the protest against former President Alpha Condé and has opposed the ruling junta for several months.

In a decree last night, the interim government accused the movement of organizing armed demonstrations on public streets and of acting like a combat group or private militia.

“Their way of working, writes the government, is structured by violent actions at banned demonstrations, attacks on people who do not share their ideology, and targeted actions against the law enforcement agencies. »

“Actions that endanger national unity,” says the government, adding that the FNDC is not one of the non-governmental organizations authorized in the country.

The decree was published just as the protest movement was about to finishannounce new eventsand denounced the lack of response to his calls for a “credible dialogue” on the transition to civilian power.

The FNDC was behind the July 28-29 demonstrations, which were banned by the authorities and left five people dead.
