The Greek Police rescued a group of 92 illegal immigrants who were found nakedsome with injuries, near the northern border with Turkey, police said on Saturday.

The migrants, all men, were found on Friday near the Evros River, which marks the border between Greece and Turkey, Greek police said in a statement.

An investigation by Greek police and authorities from the EU border protection agency Frontex found evidence that migrants in rubber boats from Turkey crossed the river, police said.

“Border police … found 92 undressed illegal immigrants, some with injuries to their bodies,” the statement said. How and why the men lost their clothes was unclear.

The Greek Minister of Immigration, Mitarachi Note, said in a tweet that Turkey’s treatment of immigrants is a “disgrace to civilization”. He stated that Athens expects Ankara to investigate the incident.

Turkish officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
