Gorton has reason to be happy

For Jeff Gorton there is certainly something very special about a match between the Canadiens and the New York Rangers.

He’s the architect, or at least he’s agreed to design the plans for the relaunch of the Manhattan Educational Concession. He’s now the one running the ice hockey sector of the Canadiens franchise, and his job is to get the organization back on track.

No doubt he was inspired by the business model he came up with while at Rangers. He had even written a letter to the team’s supporters, with the complicity of John Davidson, the team’s president at the time, telling them that Rangers could no longer continue by advocating management that involves trying all the time , to close violations.

new culture

A new culture had to be given to the Rangers.

So that meant we were cleaning out the locker rooms, some veterans were leaving with big contracts, and we were hiring skaters who wanted to make a difference through their enthusiasm, their attitude, and most importantly, their persistence.

More importantly, Rangers put a lot of emphasis on developing young players. Gorton probably liked what he saw at Madison Square Garden yesterday.

No doubt with satisfaction at the work done, as Rangers are now among the best teams in the National League.

But most of all, he was pleased with what he saw of his young formation, a team that has a new approach to running the company in its first season.

A concept based, among other things, on two dynamic, spectacular young players, two skaters who quickly won the hearts of the team’s supporters.

Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield were impressive once again.

We never thought the Canadian would be able to beat a team that knows their best moments of the season. St-Louis, like its bosses Gorton and Kent Hughes, was well served.

Suzuki dominated like Suzuki can.

Kirby Dach answered a few questions. We won’t jump to conclusions but he was brilliant against Rangers, not only in attack but his defenses also drew attention.

Christian Dvorak was Dvorak. Not spectacular, but effective. And Jonathan Drouin could have scored at least two goals.

A whole duel of the guardians

Did we plan a duel between Samuel Montembeault and Igor Shesterkin?

No way. However, Montembeault won his duel.

In short, one game doesn’t make a season, they say. On the other hand, in a process like the one in which the Canadian has to compose, very often everything is questioned.

Except that yesterday there was nothing to be surprised about.

The process will work.

You need patience and you also have to make sure that the process is carried out with rigor and that the young players continue their development in an appropriate environment.
