GOP lawmakers claim the Hunter laptop debacle was a ‘conspiracy’ to cover up ‘misconduct’ by Joe Biden

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa of California on Sunday accused Democrats and the mainstream media of engaging in a “conspiracy” over Hunter Biden’s laptop to help President Joe Biden win the 2020 election.

GOP lawmakers have demanded answers after the New York Times claimed it authenticated a hard drive said to belong to the president’s only surviving son — more than a year after the New York Post was widely criticized for revealing the contents same computer had reported.

had also authenticated the information at a time when many on the left wing dismissed it as Russian disinformation.

Issa’s bombing indictment comes a day after New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, the No. 3 Republican, vowed her party “will subpoena Hunter Biden” if she regains control of Congress in November.

“The American people absolutely deserve answers,” Stefanik told the Post on Saturday. “There is no major ethical concern, or frankly no conspiracy … whether this president is compromised because of his illegal ties to his family members.”

Earlier this week, Issa sent out retention notices to White House staffers, several tech companies and former Secret Service officials to stop them from getting rid of documents and records connected to the Post’s original October 2020 Hunter-Biden story.

“Well, one of the reasons I mentioned the custody letters is that when you then destroy evidence, those notices actually bypass Congress and suppress evidence,” Issa said on Fox News Sunday. “We’ve had that in the past. Obviously we had this with Hillary Clinton trying to destroy all evidence of her illegal activities.’

“But the other part of it is that there was clearly a conspiracy to cover up, if you will, the wrongdoing of the President, because that affects so many companies like Facebook, Twitter and so on that shut down the New York Post and his family just before an election that he had to win and won.’

The hard drive was given to the outlet by ex-Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, who received it from a Delaware computer repair shop where Hunter Biden had reportedly dropped it off.

In addition to lewd images depicting sexual acts and drug use, the laptop’s hard drive also contained a wealth of emails detailing Hunter Biden’s efforts to use his father’s connections as then-vice president to bolster his overseas operations.

Of particular interest to Republicans is the identity of a so-called “Big Guy” who was to receive 10 percent of the profits from a Chinese deal. The nickname can be found in an email on hard drive to Hunter Biden from his business partner James Gilliar.

It’s not confirmed who the “Big Guy” is, but some Republican lawmakers have speculated that it means the President.

Tony Bobulinski, another former business partner of Hunter Biden, also previously pointed the finger at Joe Biden.

“That is one of the critical questions – perhaps the most critical question,” said Stefanik on Saturday.

Amid backlash from Biden supporters and Democrats who called the story an attempt by Russia to meddle in the presidential election, Twitter blocked users from sharing the story for more than two weeks.

Facebook said at the time it had reduced the spread of the story.

On Sunday, Issa Hunter called Biden a “petty criminal” and accused tech platforms and other media of “suppressing” the New York Post.

“The investigation is clearly warranted — not just because Hunter Biden appears to be a petty criminal taking advantage of his father’s money and perhaps sharing money with his father,” Issa said.

“That’s because when we have that kind of coordinated effort just before an election, we have American collusion to influence the outcome of an election.

“That can’t happen. We need to make sure our press is free and fair, and right now when it comes to new media, free and fair doesn’t exist. And when it comes to one of the oldest newspapers in America – the New York Post was founded in 1801 – they have been suppressed.”

At the center of Republican outrage is a recent New York Times article that revealed an ongoing federal probe into Hunter Biden’s tax affairs has now extended to the recovering drug addict’s overseas operations — including his time on the board of a Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

A paragraph in the article appears to be the first time the outlet has confirmed the accuracy of Hunter’s hard drive: “These emails were obtained by The New York Times from a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop belonging to Mr Biden left behind a repair shop in Delaware. The email and others in the cache have been authenticated by people familiar with them and the investigation.’

GOP Senators Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley previously teamed to release an “interim report” titled “Hunter Biden, Burisma and Corruption: The Impact on U.S. Government Policy and Associated Concerns” weeks before the 2020 presidential election.

The report accused Hunter Biden of “cashing in” from his father’s role as vice president in the Obama administration, but found no wrongdoing by then-candidate Biden himself.

In an interview with The Hill last week, Johnson signaled an interest in reopening the investigation if Republicans regain a majority in the Senate in November’s midterm elections.

“I would like to finish that. We’ve been trying to get his travel documents for a couple of years now,” Johnson said of his Congressional request.

HUNTER’S LAPTOP AUTHENTICATION

hired cyber forensics experts from Maryman & Associates to examine the hard drive for authenticity.

The firm’s founder, Brad Maryman, was a 29-year FBI veteran who served as chief information security officer and founded the bureau’s cyber forensics division. His partner, dr. Joseph Greenfield, is an associate professor at the University of Southern California and helped create their major in intelligence and cyberoperations.

After a thorough analysis of the hard drive, Greenfield and Maryman prepared a report for detailing their findings.

Using the same forensic tools as federal and state law enforcement, their criminal investigation found a total of 103,000 text messages, 154,000 emails and more than 2,000 photos.

– They found emails for multiple accounts on the laptop from 2009 and other data “apparently linked to Mr. Biden” between 2016 and 2019.

– The results of the report were consistent with the known schedule for the disk. A work order for a computer store in Wilmington, Delaware, signed by Hunter shows that he left his 2017 MacBook Pro laptop there on April 12, 2019.

– The Maryman & Associates report states that the original “Macintosh HD” drive was created on March 28, 2018

– Hunter’s iCloud email address was added to the laptop’s system on October 21, 2018, as was his work email address at his company Rosemont Seneca on February 2, 2019.

– On the same day, a Gmail address that he used to log in to sex cam sites and another Hunter personal Gmail address were also added.

– Beau Biden’s old Gmail account was added on February 7, 2019.

– Emails addressed to Hunter’s various email addresses from December 2009 to December 2020 were found in the system.

– An iPad named “Hunter’s iPad” and three email addresses associated with the Biden family was backed up to the laptop and iCloud in January 2019 and again a month later.

– Greenfield found 818 call logs with timestamps from June 2016 to February 2019 in this iPad backup.

– There were 8,942 entries in the iPad contact book created between April 2016 and January 2019.

– In February 2019, an iPhone XS was also synced to the laptop. His serial number matched the timestamps of the data on the phone.

The report concludes, “The operating system timestamps appear to be authentic, and no evidence was found to indicate that the timestamps or data were altered or manufactured.” “No evidence was found to indicate the data was manufactured.”
