Early on Thursday’s show, Kate gushed to her new co-host, “Thank goodness you’re here!” as they discussed the rail strikes currently taking place across the country.

Train companies cut services by a fifth today as thousands of members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) and Unite picket lines across the country in a bitter dispute over pay working conditions.

Kate continued: “Everyone is really enjoying Paul Brand being here. They say you’re a breath of fresh air and you’re brilliant – but I’ll spoil you with those comments later.

Paul worked as a political correspondent for ITV News from 2016-2020 and became the UK editor earlier this year.

He has recently been involved in revealing many Partygate scoops but has now made his GMB debut.

Paul welcomed a baby son, Tomos George, last year and announced the news on Instagram, sharing a snap cradling the baby and sitting next to beaming husband Joe Cuddeford.

The couple, who married in 2017, had their child through surrogacy, with Paul sharing a picture with her surrogate a few days earlier.
