Giovanni Pezzoli, drummer and co-founder of Stadio, passed away tonight. He was 70 years old. The message was shared by Gaetano Curreri’s band on the social profiles: “Tonight at 9.00 p.m., unfortunately, Giovanni left us. Our minds and our hearts are filled with pain! We want to remember him with his smile and desire to make music for us and have a lot of fun. Bye Giovanni,” the Stadio wrote, closing the post heartbroken.
The Bolognese Giovanni Pezzoli was struck by a serious illness during a holiday in the mountains on the night of March 24-25, 2016, a few weeks after his victory at the Sanremo Festival with the song “Un giorno mi dirai” and a few days after the start of the ‘Miss Nostalgia Tour’. Precisely to perform this piece, Pezzoli returned to the stage for the first time the following August at the Arena della Regina in Cattolica (Rimini): a return of a few minutes with the Stadio, introduced by an excited and moved Curreri and accompanied by ovation.
Meanwhile, he had been replaced live by Zucchero collaborator Adriano Molinari, then by Iarin Munari. In June last year, Pezzoli was hospitalized for tests. A month ago, on November 27th, a post attributed to the artist appeared on the FB page of ‘Giovanni Pezzoli Friends’ and had worried fans: “Giovanni is not doing well.
