Giga Berlin Launches First Tesla Model Y Long Range Vehicles

lr vehicle information

It’s been a big week for Tesla in Germany. After a long wait, Giga Berlin received the environmental certificate on Friday.

Now, Drive Tesla has learned that the factory has reached another milestone and released its first Model Y Long Range test vehicles this week.

So far, Giga Berlin has only produced the Model Y Performance variant, having received permission to build up to 2,000 test vehicles before the official start of production.

As of last month, the plant’s teams have already produced more than 1,000 Performance SUVs. Now they can add four Long Range SUVs to their list of achievements.

Images provided by Drive Tesla show that four vehicles have VINs ending in 1650, 1665, 1666 and 1694.

As we reported earlier this week, all cars were built without the radar, unlike the current Performance builds at Giga Berlin that include it.

Also, since these are Long Range variants, they came without a spoiler and with Gemini 19″ and 20″ Induction wheels.

The test production run was to determine if any changes were needed to the product lines to accommodate the Long Range and Performance variants. According to our source, the test went very smoothly and there were no major hiccups.

After months of delays, Tesla may see a light at the end of the tunnel and official production could begin very soon. On Friday, the state of Brandenburg announced that the plant had officially received its final environmental permit.

However, Tesla still has to meet over 400 other “conditions and requirements” related to things like groundwater protection, species protection measures and more before the cars roll off the assembly line.
