While everyone believed him to be dead since his disappearance in 2004, an identity check found one man accidentally alive, Midi-Libre reports.

He wasn’t dead after all. A 56-year-old German man who has been missing since 2004 was found in good health while peacefully living in Switzerland.

The Sudkrier reports that the man who opened his car dealership in Spain disappeared when he was supposed to go to Munich. The very worried wife of this German then warned the Spanish authorities. The disappearance was viewed as worrying by the latter. The investigation enabled the authorities to follow the trail to a hotel where the man had stayed: the “Bilger-Eck” in Constance on Reichenaustrasse, on the Swiss border. After this lead was found, the investigation was not over. According to police theories, the man died either by suicide or as a victim of a violent crime. However, the man’s body was not found.

The man will not be prosecuted

The story came to an unexpected end with a simple identity check in the Swiss canton of Scwhyz. The man is said to have been wanted in Spain, but the information was not passed on to the German police. The person has been living peacefully in Switzerland for years. He does not want to see his wife again, but nevertheless authorized the police to inform them that he is still alive. The man will not be brought to justice as this is a private matter and nothing prevents him from disappearing overnight.
