Gaspésie: A collision on Route 132 results in one death

A man in his 60s lost his life and his passenger was seriously injured in a collision in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Gaspésie on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. when the 60-year-old motorist attempted to enter Route 132 from an intersecting street. However, he did not see a small SUV that was already on the main artery in his direction.

“The van was hit badly from the side,” said Claude Doiron, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The three people in the SUV, including two children, escaped with minor injuries. The children were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

However, those in the second vehicle were less fortunate. Daniel Fortin, the 60-year-old local driver, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital center.

Her passenger suffered serious injuries, but we do not fear for her life. She was still in the hospital 24 hours after the tragic accident.

“Although the investigation is ongoing, we do not see any criminal element that may be involved,” Mr Doiron said, adding that investigators were at the scene to analyze the scene.
