Samsung has accustomed us to a range of nearly flawless smartphones with the Galaxy Ultra. However, that from 2022 had some shortcomings, especially in terms of performance and autonomy. The South Korean brand heard our complaints and designed an S23 Ultra that lived up to our expectations. We also gave our test a 9/10, which clearly shows that the manufacturer’s efforts are successful. To benefit from it you have to pay the price, but today it benefits from a nice discount.

A sublime design and screen
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is exactly the same as its predecessor with high quality materials. It offers a rather massive rectangular format, but whose edges have been flattened for a better grip. Perfect for using a pen that requires solid support to write steadily.
Its gigantic 6.8-inch diagonal reveals an excellent Dynamic Amoled touchscreen. It offers adaptive refresh up to 120Hz and QHD definition. Our measurements resulted in a maximum brightness of 1609 cd/m² and a Delta E of 4.58. It’s almost bug-free. It just lacks a little precision, but nothing prohibitive.
The best camera smartphone
Samsung, which was already number 1 in our ranking of the best photophones with its S22 Ultra in 2022, made it onto the podium again with its S23 Ultra with a composition of four lenses on the back. Versatility comes every year with its X10 and X3, allowing you to have fun and a very effective ultra wide angle.
The S23 Ultra benefits from photo improvements, such as the inclusion of a new 200-megapixel main sensor. It uses pixel binning to merge the photo pages and achieve 12 megapixels. Regardless of the mode you choose, the photos taken are of very good quality. The night mode is certainly a little less extravagant, but the whole thing remains at a very high level.
A much more efficient processor and battery life
After being limited to its Exynos chips for a long time in the European market, Samsung has (finally) decided to switch to a Qualcomm chip for its new Galaxy S23 range. The Ultra model thus benefits from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (coupled with 8 GB RAM) and is significantly more powerful than its predecessor. This phone is therefore very powerful, with the possibility of running all the 3D games you want and in maximum graphics conditions without heating. It runs on One UI 5.1 based on Android 13, an interface whose animations have become really smooth. It is also compatible with the 5G network.
The South Korean company is also making significant progress with the autonomy part. The S23 Ultra lasts two full days without flinching, and even up to the third day if it is not used very intensively. During our testing, we put it through our ViSer protocol to simulate mixed usage. The cell phone dropped to 10% after 15 hours and 14 minutes, a very nice rate. On the other hand, it is a pity that the charge allows you to recover 100% of the energy in an hour and that the charger is not included.
