Vienna – Alternative foods are in fashion. Fried grasshoppers, for example, are no longer a rarity in Europe. House cricket powder Acheta domesticus can now be blended into various foods. The EU Commission has approved powdered house crickets as a novel food. This emerges from the Official Journal of the European Commission on 3 January.
