Former NATO general Petr Pavel is the new Czech president

Former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has clearly distanced himself. Pavel wants to return dignity and decency to the highest office in the state.

Prague. Grand finale of the Czech presidential election with expected outcome: Petr Pavel (61), former chief of staff of the Czech army and later the first Eastern European to hold a NATO command chair, will move to Prague Castle, the official residence of the Czech head of state.

Pavel defeated his rival, the multibillionaire, successful businessman and former Prime Minister of Prague Andrej Babiš (69). After counting 95 percent of the votes, Pavel won 57.59 percent. Babiš received 42.40 percent of the vote.
