Former five-star recruit, East Michigan star Emoni Bates scores 29 straight points for his team – 247Sports

Former five-star recruit and Michigan East Wing Emoni Bates showed his scoring pop on Tuesday night, scoring 29 straight points for the Eagles in the first half of their game against Toledo. Bates went into the locker room with 29 of Eastern Michigan’s 35 points as the Eagles trailed Toledo 36-35.

Jalen Billingsley scored two layups before the first TV timeout, Yusef Jihad added a jumper a few minutes later. It was then that Bates began his remarkable run, scoring Eastern Michigan’s final 29 points at halftime.

Here’s the tally, starting with less than 14 minutes to go at halftime: four 3-pointers, then a knight, then two more 3s, then a layup, followed by a dunk. He made another 3-pointer and then added two free throws to finish the goal.

Eastern Michigan was eight points behind when Bates started scoring and closed the lead to one at halftime.

Bates attempted no shots until his scoring streak, walking 10 of 14 off the field, including 7 of 9 from the 3-point line. He also made his two free throw attempts. Bates’ teammates scored two combined field goal attempts in the 13-plus-minute stretch.

Bates, the top-ranked small forward and No. 6 overall in the 2022 class, started his collegiate career in Memphis but played in just 18 games, down from 13 when he was struggling with injuries. Bates averaged 9.7 points and shot 38.6% from the field.

He decided to move closer to home for his sophomore season in college, and he’s regained some of the form that made him a top prospect, although it hasn’t translated into huge team successes.
