At least that’s what some hockey pundits say, including Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and NHL Network’s Kevin Weekes. At the moment, the Alberta organization has not announced anything on the matter.

Kadri became an unrestricted free agent after helping the Colorado Avalanche win the Stanley Cup last spring. During the regular season, he had 28 goals and 59 assists for 87 points in 71 games and added 15 points in 16 playoff games.

The former Toronto Maple Leafs have played their last three seasons in Denver and have 512 points, including 219 goals, in 739 National League games in their career. He ended a six-year, $27 million contract earlier this year.

For his part, Monahan struggled in 2021/22 and had to undergo hip surgery after his season ended in early April. He earned $6.375 million annually, settled for 23 points in 65 games and even visited the press box for a game because of his failures.

The summer has been eventful in Calgary as the Flames traded Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau in particular. Johnny Gaudreau also chose to leave the team to join the Columbus Blue Jackets.
