First Ms. Marvel trailer teases cosmic look at Kamala Khan

Unlike her teenage Jersey friends who insist that superheroes aren’t cool, Kamala Khan, the heroine of the upcoming Marvel series Ms. Marvel, thinks capes are the coolest thing in the world. Naturally, she wants to be one herself, and in the first Ms. Marvel trailer, the young girl’s wish begins to come true.

From series creator Bishy K. Ali, Ms. Marvel tells the story of how Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), the diehard Carol Danvers Stan, first discovers her own growing superpowers and begins to put them to good use as supervillainism begins to take root in Jersey. City. Much like her comic book counterpart, the MCU’s Kamala makes no bones about the fact that she’s something of a fanfiction nerd that few of her peers really understand, other than her friend Bruno Carrelli (Matt Linz).

But unlike the comic book Kamala, who develops the ability to embed parts of her body through the process of non-human terrigenesis, Ms. Marvel’s Kamala’s abilities appear to be more cosmic in nature and involve the creation of energy constructs.

As minor as the changes to Kamala’s power set may seem right now, they could be a sign that she’s about to eventually cross paths with her idol and Monica Rambo in director Nia DaCosta’s Miracles, which is a long way off. However, you won’t have to wait that long to meet Kamala as Ms. Marvel hits Disney Plus on June 8th.
