Finnish PM justifies party night: "alright cool"

The aftermath has a night of partying for Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin. Finnish media reported on Wednesday that Marin spent a drunken night with presenter Tinni Wikström, among others. He also posted a video of himself on social media.

To see: Loud, dancing prime ministers. In the background, other party guests can be heard loudly asking for cocaine, Finnish media reports.

Allegations against Marin were quickly raised: Finnish MP Mikko Kärnä of Marin’s coalition partner the Center Party asked Marin to take a drug test and make the results public.

Own press conference

At a Thursday morning news conference, Marin denied drug use and said he had “nothing to hide.” “I danced, I sang, I celebrated, I did cool things,” said the prime minister. Marin added that she doesn’t drink much. She was dismayed that the private videos were made public.

It wasn’t the first-party allegations that Marin was confronted with. In December 2021, she came under pressure because she was filmed leaving shortly after a government colleague tested positive for coronavirus.
