Fears grow as Cameroonian radio presenter goes missing papers

Social media has been deluged with posts about his absence and RSF has “condemned the brutal kidnapping of a journalist” and urged authorities to do whatever they can to find him.

The head of Amplitude FM and host of the popular daytime show Embouteillage had recently exposed alleged embezzlement in the government, calling buzz and naming some top officials.

According to the RSF, gendarmes heard a loud noise outside their police station around 8 p.m. on Tuesday in a suburb of the Cameroonian capital Yaounde and found Zogo’s badly damaged car.

“Police saw a black vehicle … pull away. They later found out it was a kidnapping.”

The Cameroonian government announced on Saturday that Zogo was “neither at home nor at his place of work”.

Authorities launched an investigation on Tuesday, but a police source told AFP on condition of anonymity that the investigations had not shed any light on his whereabouts.

“He disappeared when his program focused on financial scandals, naming names and amounts and accusing certain people in high positions of stealing money from the Cameroonian state,” opposition People’s Party of Cameroon leader Kah Walla told AFP.
