dr Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases whom President Joe Biden dubbed the tsar of the pandemic, has contracted COVID.
The National Institutes of Health announced Wednesday that Fauci, 81, tested positive for the virus on a rapid antigen test but has not had recent contact with the president.
He is currently showing mild symptoms and will continue to isolate himself from other government officials in the coming days. Fauci will only return to the NIH if he tests negative, it announced.
Fauci is fully vaccinated against the virus and has been boosted twice.
