Family and friends are searching for a missing Ohio woman whose backpack was found after she was last seen

The search for a “very religious” Ohio woman, 23, who disappeared from her grandparents’ house during a late-night walk is escalating: a backpack containing her phone, keys and Bible is dumped at the curb

  • On June 11, Alicia Kenny, 23, left her grandparents’ house where she lives for a late-night walk in Loveland and never returned home
  • The next day, just before she was reported missing, a delivery driver gave Kenny’s backpack, which contained everything needed
  • Her mother, Marcy, said there was no scenario where her “very religious” daughter would leave her backpack with her Bible
  • Loveland Police listed Kenny as a “critically” missing person and said Kenny was last seen wearing a white shirt, dark capris and sandals
  • The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations has joined the investigation into her disappearance and collected a sample of Alicia’s DNA

Ohio police are continuing their search for a 23-year-old woman who went out for a walk Saturday night and never returned home.

Alicia Kenny, 23, was last seen leaving her grandparents’ Loveland home, where she lives, at 8pm on June 11 to go for a walk.

The late-night walk wasn’t unusual, according to her mother, Marcy Kenny, because she loved the outdoors and went to parks to draw and write.

But the 23-year-old did not return home that night and was last sighted the following morning, but investigators say they don’t know who spotted her or which direction she was headed.

That Sunday morning, a delivery driver turned over Kenny’s backpack, which contained all his essentials, including his phone, wallet and Bible, to police.

Montgomery police confirmed that the driver handed in the backpack, believing someone had lost it, before taking it to Kenny’s home, WLWT.com reported.

Her mother, Marcy, said her family realized at the time that she was indeed missing because there was no scenario in which her “very religious” daughter would leave her backpack with her Bible.

“All she has is literally the clothes on her back,” Kenny told WCPO.com. Without this backpack she has absolutely nothing. And honestly…we can’t think of a scenario where she would have put the backpack down and left voluntarily.”

On Monday, Loveland Police listed Kenny as a “critically” missing person in a statement, saying Kenny was last seen walking down Loveland Madeira Road in Symmes Township, wearing a white shirt, dark capri pants and sandals.

The 23-year-old’s mother, who was walking with church members in the area where she was last seen hanging flyers, said the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is helping to investigate her disappearance and collected a sample of Alicia’s DNA Has.

“The investigative team came today to get some of her DNA. If she’s found, they want to be prepared,” Kenny told WCPO. “And just the thought of it takes us to a very deep and dark place that we’re trying so hard to avoid.

“The storms last night when she was out there alone… that’s a very painful thought,” added the distraught mum.

Kenny’s friends are taking to social media to raise awareness and are asking for help to find her

Friend Laura Messanger asked that people keep an eye out near bike lanes.

“ALICIA LOVES NATURE!!! Anyone who knows her knows that she loves nature walks and hikes, she loves to be by the river so please keep an eye out if you are on the bike trails or anything else. Let’s take her home!!!” she posted on Facebook.

Another friend posted pictures of her tattoos – including one that reads “In spirit and in truth” with a cross on her forearm and a large tiger tattoo on her left shoulder – both of which would stand out if she were wearing a tank top

“She has been calling people asking for a ride, and as far as we know, none of her friends have ever picked her up,” reads one post. “Her belongings were found in her backpack, which was abandoned and picked up by a UPS driver on her route… If you see her, please call 911 immediately.”
